Important portrait of Georgia Militia Captain Elijah Clarke, 1742 -1799. Clarke was a Leiutenant in the Georgia State Minutemen/Militia, and active at the Battle of Alligator Bridge, Florida. On February 14, 1779 Clarke led the charge in the rebel victory at Kettle Creek, Georgia. Clarke served in the Georgia State Assembly from 1781 to 1790, and the state Constitutional Convention of 1789. This painting is being sold by a direct descendant of Captain Elijah Clarke.
