Exceptional Nest of five 19th C. Nantucket baskets signed by noted maker R. Folger and branded Caldwell descending in the Captain Alexander Bunker/Caldwell family. Maker Rowland Folger, born Nantucket 4/13/1803, died Nantucket 4/23/1883. Folger was Jailer and Keeper of the House of Correction on Nantucket in the 1860’s and 70’s, his side business of basket making augmented that position’s $50.00 annual salary. Miniature ivory oval portrait of Captain Alexander Bunker, Alexander Bunker coin Silver, China Trade camphorwood trunk belonging to Bunker, scrimshaw decorated whales tooth. These items being sold to benefit the heirs and beneficiaries of the estate of William Caldwell Wood (Great Grandson of Captain Alexander Bunker). Bunker was Captain of the Ship Howard, built in 1828 hailing port: Nantucket. Bunker’s voyages reaped great rewards including almost 3,000 barrels of whale oil. His voyages to Micronesia are well documented at the New Bedford Whaling Museum including the log books of his voyages 1840 through 1845 which are part of the permanent collection. Upon Bunker’s retirement after 25 years of whaling and merchant trade, he became the first Keeper of the Sankaty Head Light from the period of 1850 to 1860.
Items from a Wareham, Ma estate: items descending in the Captain Rufus Lincoln family of “Lincoln Hill”. The Lincolns are original settlers of Taunton, Ma. Items include: Period Chippendale desk belonging to Rufus Lincoln with rosewood grained decoration . Paul Revere Serving Spoon, Sheraton Games table attributed to Duncan Phyphe descending in the Ludlow/ Roosevelt family of New York Exceptional Watercolor by Charles Warren Eaton “ A view from the Innes (George Innes) studio Montclair NJ.” Extremely Fine Miniature watercolors on ivory descending in The Ludlow, Lincoln and Roosevelt family of New York City and Wareham, Ma. A fine selection of Mid 19th Century Evening gowns from the Lincoln family home. Selection of Chinese Items which were acquired by the Ludlow family during missionary service in China at the turn of the 20th Century.
